Reptiles and their kin have inhabited our planet for millions of years.  The reptile family has both some of the largest, and smallest, of living vertebrates on earth.  All reptiles are cold-blooded (exothermic) , an unfair term at best since the animals body temperatures often exceed that of any living mammal.   The vast majority of reptiles lay eggs, while there are some that give birth to live babies. 

Some reptiles are capable of living longer than any other vertebrate that we know of on earth!  The tortoise is known to be able to exceed 125 years!

One of the most misunderstood groups of creatures alive today, the reptiles are believed by many in the science community to be descendants of the dinosaurs.
